Privacy Policy
How mdkit handles data — written in plain language, not legalese.
Last updated: April 15, 2026
1. Overview
mdkit.io ("mdkit", "we", "our", or "us") is a collection of browser-based Markdown tools. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Our approach is privacy-first: the core functionality of mdkit (editor, converters, templates) runs entirely in your browser and does not transmit your content to our servers.
2. Information we do not collect
We do not collect:
- The Markdown, HTML, or PDF content you edit, paste, or export using our tools.
- Account information — we do not require sign-up or user accounts.
- Uploaded files or documents — all file processing is performed locally in your browser.
3. Information we collect automatically
When you visit mdkit.io, our analytics and advertising providers may automatically collect limited technical information, including:
- Approximate location (country / region) derived from your IP address.
- Browser type, operating system, and device category.
- Pages visited on mdkit.io and referring URL.
- Anonymous identifiers set by cookies (see Section 5).
This information is used in aggregate to understand site usage and improve the product. We do not attempt to identify individual users.
4. How we use information
We use the limited technical information described in Section 3 to:
- Measure site performance and understand which content is useful.
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
- Serve contextual advertising that helps cover the cost of hosting (see Section 6).
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your information to train machine learning models.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
mdkit uses cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:
- Essential — required for the site to work (e.g., remembering consent preferences). These are always active.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 cookies that help us understand aggregate site usage. IP addresses are anonymized before processing.
- Advertising — Google advertising cookies (see Section 6) used to deliver relevant ads. You can opt out at any time.
In regions where required by law (including the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions with similar rules), we display a consent banner allowing you to accept, reject, or customize non-essential cookies before they load. In regions subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users may opt out of sale or sharing of personal information via the same interface.
6. Third-party services
Google Analytics 4. We use GA4 to measure site usage. IP addresses are anonymized. Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy. You can prevent GA4 data collection by declining analytics cookies in our consent banner or installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Google AdSense / Funding Choices. We may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can:
- Manage ad personalization at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of third-party vendor ad personalization at aboutads.info/choices.
- Reject advertising cookies via our consent banner (required regions).
Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard server logs for security and performance. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
7. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA)
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw previously granted consent.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (CCPA residents).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because we do not collect user content or account information, most requests will be limited to aggregated analytics and advertising identifiers. Contact us at contact@mdkit.io to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's privacy
mdkit is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Data retention
We retain aggregated analytics data for up to 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted or further anonymized. We do not retain user content, because we do not receive user content.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate we will provide additional notice on the site.
